Road Trip Roll Call: Stacy, M, Ariel, Journey, and Winnifred
You’ve been traveling vicariously with us for a while, so we thought it was about time you officially met the crew.
We’re not a polished, matching-outfits kind of travel team. We’re a little messier, a little louder, and a lot more real. Our miles are stitched together with spreadsheets, sketchbooks, squeaky toys, and the occasional breakdown (RV or emotional, depending on the day).
So here they are – the people (and not-so-people) who make up Mom, Map, and Miles. Each one has their quirks, their superpowers, and their favorite snacks… and together, they’re what turns an ordinary road trip into a story worth telling.
Stacy
Titles:
Mom (and professor). Driver of Winnifred. Chief Operations Officer. Financial Backer. Keeper of Lists. Imaginary Brake Enthusiast.
Bio:
Calm in chaos, Stacy’s the anchor of this rolling circus. She’s equal parts strategist and marshmallow-burner, steering both the RV and the family toward adventure. When the road gets messy, she reminds everyone that resilience is part of the ride.
Known For:
- Applying Olympic-level pressure to the invisible brake pedal while teaching M to drive.
- Master negotiator. This year, she charmed an RV salesperson into dropping Winnifred’s price. In the past, she once “convinced” a dealer that her broken-down three-year-old convertible was of equal value to a brand-new limited edition – and drove home in the upgrade.
- Fierce loyalty to M. Mess with her kid and you’ll see the mama-bear fire. Rumor has it one of M’s teachers was left misty-eyed after a “conversation.” No witnesses, no proof.
Defining Move (This Year):
She’s “never going to tow again”!
Going to an RV show “just to look.” Walking out with Winnifred, a gleaming new rig that promises easier city driving, winter travel, less reliance on hookups, and no more towing. Stacy didn’t just dream about the next stage – she spotted it, sized it up, and shifted gears without hesitation. Financial freedom + confidence = adventures unlocked.
Best Spotted With:
A glass of wine, a color-coded itinerary, and a s’more that’s always more charred than golden.
Favorite Food:
A good tuna melt, or some gooey Swiss cheese fondue.
Favorite Tune:
“Take It Easy” – Eagles. (Her reminder when the plan goes sideways.)
M
Titles:
Junior Explorer. Hoodie Collector. Self-Appointed Music Curator. Aspiring Screenwriter.
Bio:
At 16, M’s the co-pilot who keeps the road interesting – equal parts dreamer, doodler, and playlist producer. She’s endlessly creative, sketching in the passenger seat one minute and spinning up story ideas the next. Online school gives her freedom to dive into art classes and (occasionally) her homework, but her real classroom is the open road.
Known For:
- Packing 10 pounds of art supplies and forgetting socks. And pants.
- Dramatic snack reviews (“these chips are LIFE” or “these chips are a betrayal”).
- Soundtracking the RV with perfectly timed playlists, from AC/DC to obscure indie finds.
- Switching career dreams on a dime – this year’s obsession: screenwriting.
Defining Move (This Year):
Starting online school to pursue creative courses and setting her sights on storytelling. Whether through sketches, scripts, or perfectly timed quips, M’s writing her own script – one detour at a time.
Best Spotted With:
A hoodie two sizes too big, earbuds in, sketchbook open, and Ariel trying to lick her bare feet.
Favorite Food:
A classic BLT – extra crispy bacon, no compromises – and s’mores from every road trip’s first campfire.
Favorite Tune:
“Bang!” – AJR. (Loud, bold, and impossible not to belt along with.)
Ariel
Titles:
Queen of the Backseat. Chaos Coordinator. Snack Inspector. Chief Newsletter Correspondent.
Bio:
At nine years old, Ariel is equal parts royal and rascal. She’s loyal, observant, and just a little judgy – the kind of travel companion who keeps everyone in line with a side-eye and a perfectly timed sigh. Officially, she’s “the dog.” Unofficially, she’s the boss.
Known For:
- Claiming the best seat in the RV and refusing to share.
- Supervising all cooking and snack distribution (with deep disapproval if she’s left out).
- Loudly announcing her opinions on chipmunks, delivery drivers, and fellow campground dogs.
- Sitting on M’s head or feet at random, just to establish dominance.
Defining Move (This Year):
Almost getting Mommy into legal trouble by barking as if she was abandoned. Scoping out her throne in Winnifred. Plotting ways to insert herself into more activities. (Cape May, beware – the Queen is coming.)
Best Spotted With:
Squirrel and chipmunk patrol – though her definition of “rodent” is flexible. Birds, rabbits, delivery people, and the occasional rustling leaf have all fallen under her suspicious gaze.
Favorite Food:
Cheese. Any cheese. All cheese. Especially if it’s stolen.
Favorite Tune:
“Just Like Fire” – P!nk. (Fiery, bold, and impossible to ignore – just like her.)
Journey
Titles:
Four-Wheeled Family Member. Tow-Behind Trailblazer. Queen of the Open Road (Emerita).
Bio:
Journey was more than an RV – she was home stitched together with miles, marshmallows, and muddy pawprints. For years, she carried Stacy, M, and Ariel down highways and backroads, proving that adventure doesn’t need polish to be unforgettable.
Known For:
- Rattling just enough to keep everyone guessing.
- Smelling a little funny (Ariel’s words, not ours).
- Being fiercely reliable… until she wasn’t. (Looking at you, Texas.)
- Holding more stories than any travel journal ever could.
Defining Move:
Breaking down outside Amarillo and stranding the crew for a month. Some RVs might call it failure – Journey called it “a chance to see Austin.”
Best Spotted At:
Campgrounds across the country, with a string of Christmas lights taped to her awning and a family laughing inside.
Favorite Tune:
“On the Road Again” – Willie Nelson. (She lived it, every mile.)
AND NOW....
Winnifred
Titles:
New Kid on the Block. Glam Nomad. Freedom Finder.
Bio:
Winnifred is the newest member of the crew – a sleek, ready-for-anything RV with big shoes (or wheels) to fill. She’s nimble enough for city streets, sturdy enough for winter roads, and already giving the crew a taste of freedom they didn’t know they were missing.
Known For:
- Rolling in with confidence and a gleam that says, “Buckle up – I’m here to change the game.”
- Promising easier drives, cozier campsites, fewer hookup headaches, and no more towing.
- Smelling just new enough that Ariel is suspicious.
- Being the “impulse buy” Stacy insists was actually a very strategic life decision (and she’s right).
Defining Move (So Far):
Making M say “I LOVE HER!” and catching Stacy’s eye at an RV show where they were “just looking”… and becoming the next chapter of the story before the day was done.
Best Spotted At:
Shiny, freshly parked, with Stacy proudly at the wheel and Ariel already trying to claim her spot.
Favorite Tune:
“Born to Be Wild” – Steppenwolf. (She was built for it.)
At the end of the day, the road is just pavement and miles – it’s the crew that makes it an adventure. Stacy keeps the wheels turning (and the spreadsheets color-coded). M keeps the stories flowing and the playlists blasting. Ariel keeps everyone humble, loud, and slightly cheese-deprived. And Winnifred? She’s just getting started.
Thanks for wandering with us, detours and all. Wherever the map ends, the journey – and the crew – always begin.
